New Orleans Update 2

Sri finishes the siding.

Sri puts the final piece of siding on the house!

New Orleans Update 1

We are half way through our week and it has been great so far. We are staying at the Franklin Avenue Baptist Church which is in the ninth ward, one of the hardest hit areas. We are working on houses within walking distance in the surrounding area. It has been pretty hot, but that’s what you would expect in July down here. Clayton and Trish are working on trim in one of the houses that is nearing completion. The rest of the team is working at another sight. We are recyling wood siding from a condemned house and installing it on another. Recycling means Amanda and Brina have been sanding the old paint off the boards before Mike and Sri nail it up. We should finish closing in the house tomorrow. We have met some of the neighbors and it has been pretty cool to hear some of their stories. Samritan’s Purse is very well respected in the neighborhood so we have been treated very well by the community. Thanks for your prayers and please continue to pray for us. Blessings to you.

Sermon 7.26.09

Here is the sermon from this past Sunday.

Also we had a Baptism service this past Sunday in the evening. We should have a highlight video of that up in the next couple of weeks. Also be looking forward to some updates from our team in New Orleans.

In regards to this past Sunday’s sermon: What role does the Bible play in your day to day life? Is it important to use the Bible more or less? Why?

Baptism

The plans have been finalized. We will have our Baptism Service this Sunday at the Broken Arrow Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club located at 1400 W. Washington Street in Broken Arrow (91st street between Aspen/145th and Elm/161st see map below). The Baptism will start promptly at 5pm and we have to be out of the facility by 7pm. After the Baptism Service everyone is invited to hangout and have some fun. We will grill hamburgers, have cold drinks and watermelon. Bring your swimsuit and towel if you want to swim. We are very excited about this event and want everyone to come out and be a part of this celebration. Kris Langley and Clayton Schoonover are being baptized! If you have questions please feel free to send us an email info@theheartchurch.com or give us a call 249-5158

SOAR UPDATE 2

Things are going pretty well. This week they are conducting VBS during the day as an outreach to the communities they are working in. During the evenings they are doing various outreach programs (mostly sports based) to connect with local youth. Please pray for Megan Miller and her health. Tonight they are planning to go to South Padre for a BBQ on the beach and would really like to be a part of that. The team will be heading back to Oklahoma Friday night and Saturday. So pray for their safety as they travel as well.

New Orleans

New Orleans

A reminder that we are sending a team out to New Orleans with Samaritan’s Purse. They will be leaving early next Monday morning and returning later in the day on Saturday the 1st of August. At this time we have 2 spots open for men. (Sorry ladies all the women’s spots are filled at this time.) So if you’re a dude and you can manage the time off, this is a great opportunity  for you. There is no prerequisite in terms of construction abilities, but it will be hot and you will work hard. If you would like more information or are interested in going please let us know ASAP so we can get you on the list. You can call the church office and talk to Pastor Mike or send him an email mike@theheartchurch.com

Sermon 7.19.09

Here is the video from this past Sunday.

The challenge is to “Honor God in everything.” Is it really possible to honor God in everything? Why or why not?

SOAR UPDATE 1

Just a few notes from our group in South Texas with SOAR.

“They arrived on Tuesday and the traveling went well. It is very hot where they are working, but everything is going well. Also Amanda is having issues with her asthma and is asking that we pray for her.”

We’ll keep you posted as we get reports. Please continue praying for the group.

In case you missed it.

We have a video highlight from last week’s Backyard Bible Club. We attempted to play it on Sunday during the service, but alas, technical difficulties. (Darn those blasted technicals and all their difficulties!)

So what did you think of Camp Rock 2009? How about Comeback Sunday?

Sermon 7.12.09

Here is the sermon video from this past Sunday.

We have wrapped up this section called Trust The Truth.

So, what does it mean to trust the truth? Do you trust the truth of Jesus? The Bible? The Good News? Why or why not?
