The Prayer Life.

Walking With God

I’m a slow reader. I’ve been working through one book titled “Glocalization” since this past spring. It’s not that I don’t enjoy the material, I’m learning a lot. I’m just a slow reader. Recently I was given another book to read titled “Walking With God” by John Eldredge (Wild At Heart, Captivating, et al). It’s a great book. Best of all he actually encourages you to work slowly through it. Not to rush through it. It would be easy to because his writing style is so conversational. And that’s the whole point. Eldredge proposes a conversational approach to our relationship with God. Simply put it’s prayer. Prayer that continues with out ceasing. Prayer that responds moment by moment. Prayer that speaks to the variety of decisions and situations we may face throughout the day.

This past week Mike talked about a plan for your prayer life. I’m curious. What’s your approach?

In the past I’ve been more of a designated pray-er. Setting aside time specifically to pray and usually leaving it at that. As I’ve begun to work through Eldredge’s book I’ve become more of a spontaneous pray-er. I need to improve in praying with others more spontaneously. And I’m working on that.

How about you?

New Orleans Report 2

Here is another video posted by Clayton. If you still need a reason to understand why we are so passionate and insistent about going and serving in New Orleans or anywhere else you need to watch this video.

Mr. Montana was in Florida during Katrina, and came back to very little home left, along with major contractor issues. He is now the very happy owner of a very beautiful home that’s been rebuilt by Samaritan’s Purse.

strong-in-spirit

Well, due to technical difficulties we have no video from this past Sunday’s service. But what we lack in video we make up for in memory (or note taking). Pastor Mike had given us the assignment to read through Romans 12 and 1 Thessalonians 4:1-12 this week in light of living honorable lives. So let’s start with 1 Thessalonians 4:1-12.

Verse 3 says that “God’s will is that we are to be holy.” What does this say to us about God? What does it say about the choices we make from day to day? Is it significant that Paul jumps right into dealing with sexual immorality? Why? Why not?

New Orleans Report 1

Here is a video interview Clayton did with Ms. Bundy from New Orleans. This is 5 minutes of pure gold as you hear her heart and how God has used such tragedy to bring His peace. Please pass this on to friends and family. Also, we will be returning to New Orleans to continue helping Samaritan’s Purse with the rebuilding. In the meantime you can find out more about Samaritan’s Purse and their work here.

Ms. Bundy was one of the first people to have her house rebuilt by Samaritan’s Purse. This is her story from Katrina to the present.

School Supplies

Got a call today from the staff at Jefferson Elementary. They are in desperate need of school supplies. In many classes half the students are coming to school with no supplies. Here’s your chance to jump in and help out. What they need most includes:

  • crayons
  • glue
  • glue sticks
  • black expo markers
  • backpacks
  • copy paper
  • loose leaf college ruled paper
  • erasers
  • pencils (#2)
  • colored pencils
  • markers

Bring these by the church and we will take them over to the school as they come in. If you want to advertise this need at the office and get everyone there plugged in feel free to do so.

It’s time for the church to rise up!

Sermon 8.9.09
