In case you missed this past Sunday’s message, Pastor Mike challenged us to look at ourselves as coaches in the lives of children. We point them in the way to go and then get out of the way. Perhaps the larger struggle is how do we coach them? He listed a variety of opportunities to be intentional in the spiritual development of children:
1. Prayer: we can pray for our children (protection, wisdom, courage, God’s will) and we can pray with our children (meals, bedtime, decisions, crisis, traveling)
2. Bible Study: family devotions around meal time or bedtime, reviewing sunday school lessons, simply reading scripture together
3. Spiritual conversations: looking for opportunities to talk about making decisions based on scripture, why your family makes certain moral decisions
Regardless of where you are at in your spiritual journey we should always be pushing ourselves to “be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keepingĀ a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.” (1 Peter 3:15-16 NIV)
This Saturday’s mens breakfast has been postponed. We will let you know of the new date as soon as possible. If you purchased a ticket for the breakfast already we will honor your ticket for the rescheduled event.
We are partnering with several other Tulsa churches to bring Brennan Manning’s Spiritual Retreat May 15 and 16. Please plan to attend this powerful event as you will be challenged and inspired. Brennan Manning is the author of “Ragamuffin Gospel”, a compelling read that plainly speaks about God’s grace. Tickets are available through The Heart at a discounted price of $10. We want everyone to attend this event! If you have questions or would like more information contact Pastor Mike ( mike AT theheartchurch DOT com ) or give us a call here at the office (249-5158)
Promotional video for our new series starting this Sunday April 11th:
Life is good when things are right at home. We may face criticism and challenges, but they are manageable when things are right at home. The world can be a scary, harsh and uncaring place to be, but we can make it through when things are right at home. Stress, fatigue, and pressure may threaten our sanity, but we can keep plugging away when things are right at home. The problem is keeping things right at home isn’t easy. But we can do it. We’re going to take a look at what the Bible has to say about keeping things right at home
