Project Oasis
I mentioned this past Sunday about the exciting things going on in Niger. I wanted to share more details about that and let you all know how you can help.

“We have a unique opportunity to pursue the purchase of a piece of property in the Francophone Neighborhood of Niamey. This neighborhood was created with nice houses to house athletes and their guests from about 46 nations during 2005 Francophone Games which are similar to the Olympics but only for French speaking nations. It is like a small city on the outskirts of Niamey. This community has a police department, a post office and a bank. This neighborhood is only four years old. There are currently no schools, no bakery, or restaurants in the area yet. A new road has been laid providing good access to the airport and the city. Recently the government opened this neighborhood for purchase to the general population. All the homes have been purchased and are occupied with the majority of the inhabitants being those of influence. The people of this neighborhood are looking for a safe place for their children to play, be educated and have community with other families.”
“Our vision for this property is an Oasis of multipurpose activities that could possibly include: An Outdoor Children’s Playground A Bakery Worship Center/ Conference Center — A place suited for Bible training of the Body of Christ — Church Radio Station that would broadcast Christian programming — Location for Tailors and Seamstresses to display and sell their creations — Job training programs in masonry, carpentry, metal work, maintenance, auto mechanics and various other professional skills needed.”
“The terms that we requested from them are these:
1. We would provide a down payment of 30% of the asking price of 304,000,000cfa($676,000 US Dollars or 463,415 Euros) by the end of October. The actual amount needed by the end of October would be $203,000 US Dollars or 139,025 Euros.
2. The remaining 70%($473,000 US Dollars or 324,390 Euros) would be paid on a monthly basis over a period of the next 3 years.
On the same day, we received a verbal approval from the head of this commission accepting the terms that we proposed in this letter to them. We are now awaiting their formal letter of acceptance.
Up to this point, the gifts received from friends in Germany and the United States total $11,753 US Dollars or 8,057 Euros. This amount would be included in the 30% down payment that will be made at the end of October.”
This is just a summary of the project. You can download the full project report here.

Whoa! Who else is involved with this?
There are a variety of groups involved with Hosanna. Humedica based out of Germany. Operation Blessing based out of Virginia. And a variety of local churches and missionaries including IMB missionaries with the Southern Baptist convention and churches like The Heart and Emmanuel Baptist church in Enid. And of course a whole bunch of regular folk who just want to be a part.
Also forgot to put in there important information. If you would like to give toward this project you can send your tax deductible donations here:
