Sermon 7.26.09
Here is the sermon from this past Sunday.
Also we had a Baptism service this past Sunday in the evening. We should have a highlight video of that up in the next couple of weeks. Also be looking forward to some updates from our team in New Orleans.
In regards to this past Sunday’s sermon: What role does the Bible play in your day to day life? Is it important to use the Bible more or less? Why?

In the sermon Mike said: “Most of us go to the Bible for support or proof. How do you approach the Bible?” This was a big point for me. I do this a lot. I look to scripture to affirm a decision that I have already made. Or I go to Jesus to answer a question I’ve already made up my mind about. And if there is silence or anything that goes against my decision I write it off as not “technically” dealing with my question or some other lame excuse.
I think one indicator of our faith and its strength is how much time we spend in the bible. It’s a real eye opener for me to hear this message and to realize if I’m honest with myself I don’t spend much time in the bible and therefore have to admit that my faith in the power of scripture is pretty weak. I almost feel silly that God laid out everything we need in the words of the bible, but I’m not ravenously studying…or studying it much at all.
Sorry to be a negative Nancy….er Ned.
I read the Word every day, but lately I have caught myself treating it more like a fortune out of a fortune cookie than using it as a tool. I do a daily reading but I don’t “saturate” myself in it like I should. I’ve tried to be more mindful of this lately.
